Structure for a Structure

Washington Monument, Washington, DC, USA
Here we captured a photo of the Washington Monument in Washington, DC which is surrounded by scaffolding designed by Architect Michael Graves so that it may be restored. This work was completed between 1998 and 2000.

This shot of Midway was taken just after take-off from nearby Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). Behind the wing you can see a glimpse of downtown Chicago.

Smooth Sailing

Sailboat, Jekyll Island, Georgia, USA
We had a relaxing time in Jekyll Island during the winter of 2000 and we highly recommend going there. If things haven't changed too much, you can still do nothing but relax!

Do the leaves of green...

Autumn Leaf, Highlands, North Carolina
On Tales from Topographic Oceans Jon Anderson and Steve Howe asked "Do the leaves of green stay greener through the autumn?". This beautiful leaf answers their question.

Watch out for falling....

Falling Snow and Ice Warning, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Mondays at Topograpix are all about the mundane. Road and pedestrian hazard signs are fairly commonplace. While this one is pretty unusual (and scary) for us, we imagine this is normal in the parts of the world like Montreal which experience significant snowfall.

Conched Out

Conch Fritters, Nassau, Bahamas
Sundays are often for kicking back and relaxing over a nice long brunch. Here at Topograpix we have Succulent Sunday.

These cute little morsels are from a place called Conch Fritters Bar and Grill in Nassau. Needless to say, we ordered conch fritters there.

The original picture was of the entire plate, but we decided to zoom in and show the golden brown color of the fritters.

When we zoomed in, we discovered a tiny piece of napkin on one of the fritters. Thanks to Google's Picasa, we were able to touch up the fritter and remove the napkin. The Picasa desktop tool is excellent at adjusting and touching up photos. We highly recommend it.

Oompa Loompa

Terminal 2, AĆ©roport Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Roisy, France

Fridays are about flying and aviation. What you see is orange, round, and squat, but not an Oompa Loompa. It is actually the gate area of Terminal 2E at AĆ©roport Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG).

Friendly Critter

Uinta Chipmunk at Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, USA
Throwback Thursdays are for older film pictures that we've scanned in.

This friendly little critter was eating some seeds and did not seem to mind us taking a picture of him. Please note that it was not us who fed him.

This picture was taken in the summer of 1994 with a 35mm film camera.

America - My Country, 'Tis of Thee

Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
Tuesdays are for travel photos. In honor of the inauguration of our 44th president, here is a view of Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Why Provincetown, you ask? Before the Pilgrims reached Plymouth, they actually stopped for 5 weeks in what would become Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, before sailing on to Plymouth. It was in Provincetown Harbor that the Pilgrims wrote and signed the Mayflower Compact, which established the first rule of law in what was to become the United States of America.

This view of Provincetown was taken from the top of the Pilgrim Monument.
