A Time for Rome

Clock Tower, Rome, Georgia, USA
We like this picture because of the interplay between the tree, sky, and tower on this cold winters' day.

The Clock Tower in Rome was originally built as a water tower in 1871.  A four-sided clock with a bell was added soon after in 1872.  The interior water tank is long gone, but the clock still stands and appears to keep time.

The angle of the hill and our perspective makes it appear that the clock is off-kilter, but this is just an illusion.

Urban Canvas II

Coastal States Building, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Mirroring a recent post on the BB&T Building in Asheville, we present the Coastal States Building in Atlanta.  Shown in the mirrored panes are many downtown landmarks designed by John Portman.  Most prominent in the reflection are Portman's iconic Hyatt Regency and Marriott Marquis hotels.  Interestingly, the Coastal States building was designed by Sidney R. Barrett & Associates.

Good For Plants and Animals

Dragonfly and Sprinkler, Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Canada
This sprinkler keeps a section of the world-famous Butchart Gardens lush and beautiful.  When it's not sprinkling the flowers, it is also used as a landing pad for dragonflies.

Chivalrous Meal

Hawaiian Swordfish, Lihue, Hawaii
This Hawaiian swordfish may have fought with the fisherman, but once it was on the plate, it was delicious and smooth.  The veggies, rice, and sauce were equally tasty and beautiful.

Pick-A-Little, Talk-A-Little

Sea Birds, Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, Hawaii
This early morning meeting reminds us of the old Music Man song 'Pick-A-Little, Talk-A-Little'.

You can just imagine these birds of different feathers all gossiping about who caught the worm, who caught herring, who's courting a rooster, and who slept in.

Steely and Warm

Sunny and Warm Paris

Eiffel Tower, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Like all things in the modern Las Vegas, the Paris Las Vegas hotel and casino is an evocative fantasy.  With a half-size Eiffel Tower and architecture and decor reminiscent of Paris, this Gallic fantasy sits directly across from the Bellagio's Lake Como (from where this photo was taken) and just down the strip from the Venetian's Venice.
