Building Illusion

Commerce Place, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The mirrored glass and modern architecture of Commerce Place creates illusions at all angles.  It reflects itself and the buildings around it to confuse and delight observers.

A Taxi Longer Than A Flight

Patterson Field, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Greene County, Ohio, USA
The first manned airplane flight by Orville Wright was just 120 feet.  The taxiways at Patterson field, which is part of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, are certainly longer than that.

Wright-Patterson has two airfields, Patterson and Wright.  Wright Field was originally named for Wilbur Wright (the 2nd man to fly, shortly after brother Orville), whose first flight was 175 feet.  Again, not only do the taxiways exceed that length, but so do many airplanes which visit these fields.

One Day

Us, Tallahassee, Florida, USA
Yesterday the United States Supreme Court tossed out the anti-gay marriage laws DOMA and Prop 8.  Perhaps one day we will have the full, complete, and unquestionable right to marry anywhere in the nation of our births.

The photo above was taken by a friend very early in our relationship, about 25 years ago.  We usually don't post anything remotely political or personal, but as it's no secret we're a gay couple, we figured it was okay today.

Circle of Life

Tree Stump, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
This round stump is all that is left of a tall tree which provided shade for many years.  Sadly, the drought took a toll, but a new tree will one day take its place and grow and thrive.

Rainy Days and Mondays

Interstate 85, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Sometimes it rains so much you just look for the highway lines and taillights.

Aloha Alaska, Ainngai Hawaii

Alaska Airlines Boeing 737, Honolulu, Hawaii
This Alaska Airlines 737 was spotted at Honolulu International Airport (PHNL).  Alaska flies from Anchorage non-stop to 3 of the 4 main Hawaiian Islands (Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii). We can only imagine the excitement that Alaskans feel about their flight when they see the lei and that Hawaiians feel when they see the Eskimo.

A Wild Virgin

Virgin River, Zion National Park, Utah, USA
The Virgin River runs wild for just a few weeks of the year.  Most of the time, it is but as trickle.  This photo was taken during a very busy time for the river, which shaped much of the surrounding scenery.

What's in a Name?

Sculpture, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
The Garden, like so many pieces of contemporary art, might derive its name from the location, from a hidden meaning in the sculpture, or from a random thought in the artist's mind.  The next time you're in Charlotte, go ahead and ponder the name and meaning of this sculpture by artist Jerry Peart.

Dream Lines?

Grocery Checkouts, Fairfield, Ohio, USA
Wouldn't it be nice if there were always this many checkouts awaiting your buggy?  Of course, without cashiers, these lines are useless.  We probably don't want to be shopping at Jungle Jim's when all 34 lines are staffed and in use.

Sticky, Gooey, and Delicious

Grilled Donut S'more, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
This patently fattening dessert is a grilled donut stuffed with shaved chocolate, marshmallow mascarpone, and a graham cracker.  This Tom+Chee treat was sticky, gooey, and delicious!

Urban Canvas

BB&T Building, Asheville, North Carolina, USA
We love how the mirrored panes on this skyscraper serve as a canvas upon which clouds are painted.
