Deliverance Then And Now

Seder Table, Jaffa, Israel
This was our Seder table right before the start of Passover in 5764.  Inside the pages of our Haggadah is a prayer for the release of Soviet Jews.  That year, there was irony as we said the prayer.

Sitting at the table was a couple from the former Soviet Union and their son who was born in Israel hours after his parents' arrival.  As we celebrated our Exodus from Egypt centuries ago, we also celebrated this family's recent deliverance.

Angelic Request

Angel Sculpture, Prague, Czech Republic
We saw this dramatic angel while walking towards the Royal Castle in Prague.  We loved his expressive, heartfelt pleading to Heaven.

Sharp Green

Cactus, Phoenix, Arizona, USA
We find cacti fascinating for many reasons.  Coming in all shapes and sizes, some are like plants, and some like trees.  Some have big spines, and some have tiny, little ones.  The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix sure had a wide variety for us to enjoy.

Rustic Pelican

Pelican, Dania Beach, Florida, USA
This pelican was hunting for scraps along the fishing pier at Dania Beach.  We like how rustic this photo is and how unafraid the pelican was.

A Colorful Convention

Palais des congrès, Montréal, Quebec, Canada
The Palais des congrès de Montréal was our first entrance to the vast underground city beneath the streets of Montréal.  The building captivated us with its rainbow of colored windows.  It must be very festive to see a show or event in this space.

Natural Piers

Fishermen, Rosh Hanikra, Israel
Everyday millions of folks fish for their meals and recreation.  This beautiful fishing spot is near the famous grottoes of Rosh Hanikra.  We don't know if these folks are fishing for fun or food, but there is no doubt that this is a very scenic and unusual place to fish.

A Lamp in the Dark

Wingtip Light, Somewhere Over the United States
It was a rainy and stormy all the way from Chicago to Atlanta.  Sometime during the flight we captured this image of the wingtip light attempting to bring a little clarity to the soup.  The picture is as clear as the weather was, but it perfectly captured the moment.

In and Around the Lake

Lake Michigan, USA
The morning sun is shining down on southwestern Lake Michigan. Enroute to Chicago, we were likely in our descent by this time. At 22,400 sq mi (58,000 km2), Lake Michigan is the largest body of water by area wholly in the United States and also the largest by area found entirely within any one country. If you look closely, you can see a large ship plying the waters.

Whatever Floats Your Boat

Watercraft, Lake Lanier, Georgia, USA
With a mild climate, Georgia's lakes and waterways are enjoyed during much of the year. This picture, at the height of summer, shows a variety of boats, houseboats, and docks. We took this picture from a small propeller plane while flying between Atlanta and Gainesville.

Slobberpuss

St Bernard Puppy, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
This cute Saint Bernard Puppy was being carried around a local festival on his owner's back in a human baby carrier. This adorable little fellow seemed to be tired of the festival, all the attention, or both.

Tight Squeeze

Prague, Czech Republic
We've seen plenty of one way streets in major cities and we've even been on narrow roads and alleys in historic areas. We were unprepared, however, to see pedestrians stop what they were doing and move out of the way of our taxi. As you can see, they didn't have much choice.

Living Underground

Underground Walkway, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Montreal boasts the world's largest underground complex, La Ville Souterraine. Spanning over 12 square kilometers, with over 32 kilometers of tunnels, the underground city offers a respite from cold winters. Through these climate controlled passageways, citizens and visitors can reach about 80% of all offices and over 35% of all shops without going out into the elements. There are about 120 entry points, which makes it very easy to enter and exit the underground city from different points in Montreal.

High House or Low Water?

Boathouse, Lincoln, Alabama, USA
This boathouse was in a bend of the Coosa River near Lincoln, Alabama. At the time of this photo, the water was so low that the boathouse may not have been too useful to the owner.

Not Open on Succulent Sundays

Original Chick-fil-A Restaurant, Hapeville, Georgia, USA
Chick-fil-A is a fixture in the Southern USA. The Dwarf House is the pre-cursor to all Chick-fil-A restaurants. Unlike regular Chick-fil-A's, the Dwarf House has a larger menu and also serves beef! The owner is a religious Christian, so all Chick-fil-A's are closed on Sunday. While we may not agree with all of the owner's views, it is nice to know that Chick-fil-A puts family and faith before profit.
