Open Road

Highway, Livermore, California, USA
Sometimes the journey is a destination unto itself.  On our way to the famous California Wine Country, we enjoyed these wide open roads with pleasant vistas.

How Now Orange Plow

Snowplow, Portland, Maine, USA
For folks in warmer climates, this little snow plow is a novelty.  We found it especially cute, but we bet the folks who live day in and day out with snow may think it is a needed friend.

Big Bird

Boeing 747, Los Angeles International Airport, California, USA
This view of a 747 at LAX gives you a real perspective of this giant plane's true size.

See the Lions

Sea Lions, Pier 39, San Francisco, California, USA
These sea lions have been congregating in significant numbers at Pier 39 in San Francisco since 1989.  This photo from the mid 1990's appears like a large group, but we read recently that there are now sometimes over 1500 sea lions hanging out around Fisherman's Wharf at Pier 39.  The fellow in the foreground, who seems to be a leader of the colony, appears to have his own "king" bed to rest on.  Perhaps it is a California King.

Night Clouds

Night Sky, Mentone, Alabama, USA

Like our recent moon picture, we took this picture of the night sky using a tripod, a shutter delay, and a slow shutter speed.  A nearby streetlamp brightened the tree and the milky clouds were captured by the slow shutter speed.  We love how the clouds appear to be racing to the outstretched arms of the tree.

Moonshine

The Moon, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
We took this picture of The Moon using a small tripod, a delay (to ensure a steady camera after pressing the shutter button), and a slow shutter speed.  After a few tries, this is what we captured.

Circular Squares

Modern Building, Coconut Grove, Florida, USA
We spied this cool building in Miami's Coconut Grove neighborhood.  It's Mid-Century Modern meets generic 70's.  This is basically a set of three connecting squares dressed up with circles.

Subsonic

Concorde, AĆ©roport Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Roissy, France
Even tied down on its mountings, Concorde is at once majestic and graceful.  We trudged through a moist, icy, clay-filled field of rabbits to see this display of this retired Concorde.  It is very sad that every Concorde has been retired because of a single accident and some misguided environmental information.  Perhaps one day, a new supersonic airliner will take the skies.
