A Big Compact

Mayflower Compact Monument, Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
The Mayflower Compact Monument commemorates the first governing document by the Pilgrims in North America.  The compact was signed in Provincetown Harbor in November 1620, a year before the Pilgrims celebrated their first Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts.  The next time you're in Provincetown, check it out.

Meal of the Pilgrims?

Fish and Chips, Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
We dined on this tasty lunch of fish and chips alongside Provincetown Harbor. We doubt the Pilgrims ate such a fine meal, let alone with a cola and cole slaw, during their historic P-town stopover in 1620.

Up, Up and Away

Staircase, Pilgrim Monument, Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
This is a view looking up from the base (or near the base) of the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown. The monument commemorates the landing of the Pilgrims at Provincetown and their signing of the Mayflower Compact. At over 200 feet tall, there are plenty of steps to climb!

America - My Country, 'Tis of Thee

Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
Tuesdays are for travel photos. In honor of the inauguration of our 44th president, here is a view of Provincetown, Massachusetts.

Why Provincetown, you ask? Before the Pilgrims reached Plymouth, they actually stopped for 5 weeks in what would become Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, before sailing on to Plymouth. It was in Provincetown Harbor that the Pilgrims wrote and signed the Mayflower Compact, which established the first rule of law in what was to become the United States of America.

This view of Provincetown was taken from the top of the Pilgrim Monument.
