Red, White, and Blue

Saab 340's, Memphis International Airport, Tennessee, USA
These cute Saab 340 airliners of commuter service Northwest Airlink were awaiting passengers to transport across the Deep South, Ozarks, and beyond.

This picture features N451XJ, the 500th Saab 340 to roll of the assembly line.

Memphis International Airport (MEM) was a major hub for Northwest Airlines.

In honor of our nation's Independence Day, we share this photo of red and white airliners against a blue sky.

Memphis on the Mississippi

Memphis, Tennessee, USA
In this aerial shot of Memphis, you can easily see downtown, the Pyramid Arena, the Mississippi River, the Hernando de Soto Bridge (with a tip of Arkansas), General DeWitt Spain Airport, and the confluence of Interstates 40 and 69. Landmarks like the Peabody Hotel, Beale Street, and Sun Records are in the picture, but cannot be seen clearly.

A Studio Fit for a King

Sun Studio, Memphis, Tennessee, USA
This is where Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and many other famous early rock and rollers recorded and became famous. Opened in January 1950 as Memphis Recording Service, this building served as the genesis of Sam Phillips' label Sun Records. Because of several changes in ownership, the building later housed a plumbing company and auto supply store before reverting to a recording studio.

Velvet Sky Fit for The King

Dusk, Memphis, Tennessee, USA
The clouds in this beautiful evening sky are reminiscent of velvet. Many Elvis lovers enjoy his likeness on velvet wall hangings. Sitting just minutes from Graceland, we enjoyed this magnificent sky.

An Evening in Memphis

Night View from Peabody Hotel Roof, Memphis, Tennessee, USA
We used a long exposure to capture a bitterly cold evening in Memphis from atop the famed Peabody Hotel. Memphis is along the Mississippi River and it is featured prominently in this scene.

We wonder if the unlit letters on the Memphis Business Journal building are a portend of things to come in print media.
